NASA TV will provide coverage of the departure of Orbital ATK’s OA-8 Cygnus cargo spacecraft from the International Space Station (ISS) beginning at 7:45 am ET on December 6, 2017. ISS crew members Joe Acaba and Mark Vande Hei, using the robotic Canadarm2, will give the command to release Cygnus at approximately 8:10 am ET.
After departure, Cygnus will raise its orbit and release 14 cubesats from an external NanoRacks deployer on December 7. It will remain in orbit until December 18 when it will be commanded to reenter into the Earth’s atmosphere.
Cygnus delivered 7,400 pounds of cargo to ISS, and now is filled with 5,500 pounds of trash that will be incinerated, along with the spacecraft, during reentry.
